Our Story
Becoming Mercantile on State
Mercantile was born from a much older business, The Mending Shed. The Mending Shed is a small repair shop that specializes in appliance parts and appliance repair. Started in 1971 by Craig Palmer, his daughter Hollie bought the company and continued his dream for the last 10+ years. As the world has changed, repair and things that are repairable have changed too. We still fix appliances every day in our store, but repair is unfortunately, and extremely sadly, a dying industry.
Being a small business is getting harder every single day, not just for us, but for all small businesses. Our goal with Mercantile on State is to help local artisans and makers have a space to sell and promote their work. This space is about supporting each other, and providing a special spot here in Orem for people to shop local, and support these small businesses.
